Parental socioeconomic status (SES) has a significant influence on child health outcomes. SES typically encompasses factors such as family income, education, occupation, and access to healthcare resources, all of which contribute to a child’s physical, cognitive, and emotional development (Danladi et al., 2024). In Taraba State, where rural-urban disparities in healthcare access and socioeconomic conditions persist, understanding the relationship between SES and child health outcomes is critical for designing targeted interventions. Children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds are often at greater risk of poor health outcomes, including malnutrition, stunted growth, and increased vulnerability to diseases (Ibrahim & Abdulkareem, 2023).
The health disparities in Taraba State underscore the need for an in-depth exploration of how parental SES influences children's health, particularly in areas where health services may be scarce. This study aims to assess the relationship between parental socioeconomic status and the health outcomes of children in Taraba State, with a focus on malnutrition, immunization rates, and childhood illnesses.
In Taraba State, children from lower socioeconomic backgrounds often experience poorer health outcomes due to factors such as limited access to nutritious food, healthcare services, and educational resources. While SES is a known determinant of health, there is limited research specifically focusing on the impact of SES on child health outcomes in Taraba State. This study will assess the relationship between parental SES and child health in the region, seeking to identify how socioeconomic factors contribute to variations in child health.
The study will focus on households in Taraba State with children under the age of five. Data will be collected through household surveys, interviews, and health records analysis. Limitations include potential biases in self-reported socioeconomic data and the difficulty of accessing remote areas.
